Mt. Index North / Lake Serene Phase 2 Acquisition
For years, Forterra has worked tirelessly in acquiring 102 acres along the Lake Serene Trail. This critical inholding is adjacent to existing Forterra property and Bridal Veil Falls. Annually, the Lake Serene Trail sees 45,000 users.
After overcoming several complicating factors, Forterra recently had the option to purchase the property and was able to secure funding. Yet another complication arose when the appraised value came in lower than the purchase price that was in the option agreement.
Forterra approached the Tide SW Foundation to cover this gap so they could fulfill their commitment to the landowner and move forward to acquire the property.
The Board was excited to provide the funding and were happy to be just a small part of the overall project. Though the Foundation has been a supporter with unrestricted gifts for some time, this was our first project with Forterra.
This was a big win for everyone. Forterra intends to manage the property for permanent public access and non-motorized recreational use such as hiking and scrambling, and to protect the mature forest resources and scenic value. This is right in line with the Foundation’s mission. Thanks to all their hard work in making this acquisition a reality.
